    ABOUT LAURA

Laura is an enthusiastic individual with a sunny disposition, committed to communicating her love of the violin and music to others through performance and teaching!

She has attended European String Teaching Association workshops, discussing issues such as the importance of graded exams, how to approach teaching modern music and the Colour Strings Method.

Laura gained her ABRSM teaching diploma in 2006 whilst completing her degree. She has spent much time exploring teaching issues such as repertoire, approaches to aural, sight reading and the varied methods one can use to overcome technical problems, yet still maintaining the student’s enthusiasm. These varied methods enable her to be flexible and find the best way to teach students as individuals.

Laura has extensive teaching experience, working with people of all ages (young children to mature students) and abilities (beginners to post grade 8). She loves all the challenges this brings, and enjoys problem solving.

Laura has also done support work in her spare time which she really enjoyed, supporting tenants across Cardiff who need help to be independent. The job required patience, a good sense of humour, a simple but firm manner, and clear communication without being patronising. It also required integrity and responsibility as one is dealing with vulnerable people. Laura is fully aquainted with and has undergone the CRB check.

She has participated in several county groups and won Young Musician of the Year in 2002 from Torbay and South Devon Music Centre! She has attended various workshops and master classes with musicians such as John Rutter (Sing and Play Day) and John Lenehan (silent film workshops).

Overall, she has gained inspiration and bountiful information from all her violin lessons! Whilst continuing her journey of playing, she wishes to pass on her knowledge of the art of playing such a beautiful instrument to children, so they can experience and benefit from music!
